JE SUIS SCARECROW

SCARECROW was founded in 1989 by writer, producer, and lead vocalist John Blaze. The original lineup featured drummer Jim Harris, bassist Rickie Panzica (AKA Rick Anthony), and guitarist Eddie Ojeda of Twisted Sister. John Blaze recalls that from the very beginning his voice was described as gruff and scratchy—perfectly matching the band’s hard-pounding music. That raw vocal style helped shape the gritty image and identity that would become SCARECROW.

In September 1989, SCARECROW made their explosive debut at the legendary Long Island nightclub Sundance. The band immediately captivated audiences, blowing the roof off the venue and building a loyal following almost overnight. Sundance owner Frank Cariola became an important supporter of the band, believing in SCARECROW and helping fuel the growing buzz surrounding their performances.

Throughout the early 1990s, SCARECROW recorded and toured extensively. The band eventually signed its first record deal with Redlight Records out of Illinois. Their debut CD and cassette release, produced by John Blaze, featured ten powerful hard rock tracks that quickly caught the attention of critics and fans alike. The album was released both domestically and internationally, reaching markets as far as Japan and featuring performances from the original lineup, including Eddie Ojeda.

By the late 1990s, SCARECROW’s sound began to evolve. The band signed a second record deal with Pavement Music, another independent hard rock label based in Illinois. Their follow-up album, “A Touch of Madness,” was recorded in Rochester, New York and once again produced by John Blaze. The record introduced a more modern edge while still maintaining the massive choruses and signature sound that fans had come to expect from SCARECROW.

In the 2020s, John Blaze expanded the SCARECROW concept by creating a theatrical stage production titled “I AM SCARECROW.” Performing in his signature stage makeup, Blaze brought the darker and more theatrical side of the SCARECROW character to life. Celebrating 20 years of SCARECROW, John Blaze released a compilation album, “Best of SCARECROW,” through Spectra Records. The release supported the theatrical stage show “Blood, Sweat and 20 Years.” The album featured performances by notable musicians including guitarist George Cintron, drummer John Miceli, and bassist Danny Miranda, known for performing with Queen alongside Brian May and Paul Rodgers. Standout tracks include “Welcome To My Mind,” “No Place Like Home,” and “I Am SCARECROW.”

Now, in 2026, John Blaze returns with one of the most powerful releases of his career— “TWISTED.” Inspired by his long-standing friendship and musical history with Dee Snider and the members of Twisted Sister, the track delivers a modern, radio-ready rock anthem. The song features guest vocals from Dee Snider, electrifying violin work by Mark Wood of Trans-Siberian Orchestra, lead guitar by TJ Jordan, and drums by Bobby Marks of Humble Pie. “TWISTED” is available across all major streaming platforms, including Spotify and iTunes, with a music video currently in development to support upcoming live performances in 2026.

With decades of music, evolution, and theatrical rock storytelling behind them, SCARECROW continues to push forward. The next chapter promises to be the most exciting yet. SCARECROW — the best is yet to come.
